Meskot was born from a simple question: if digital tutorials helped me build professional skills, why shouldn't children in Tigray have curriculum-aligned video lessons in a language and context they understand?
Desta M. Abreha studied Electronics and Communication Engineering at Mekelle Institute of Technology and has worked for more than a decade in design, media, digital communication and project coordination. He was a 2019 Mandela Washington Fellow and took part in the U.S. State Department's Professional Development Experience with Catholic Relief Services.
He grew up with few learning resources in his mother tongue. Later, as a professional, he taught himself tools such as Photoshop, video editing and digital marketing through online video tutorials, and saw how powerful accessible video-based learning can be. He founded Meskot Education on that idea, and leads a team of experienced local teachers who adapt the approved curriculum into video lessons in Tigrinya.
